Lesson Description:
Infants 8 – 13 months
Infants in this age group are taught the basic, yet essential skills of rotating from a face down position in the water to a face up position and independently maintain a comfortable floating posture. Once the child has mastered the basic skillset, these life savings skills are also practiced while fully clothed for aquatic problem solving opportunities. These lessons are conducted one-on-one, four days per week and custom tailored to meet the physical, developmental and emotional needs of each child. Students generally master these skills within 16-20 consecutive lessons. infant swimming lessons rockledge swim lessons rockledge swim lessons viera
14 months -5 years: Swim*Float*Swim:
With the number of swimming pools, retention ponds and lakes in our communities, children in this age group are taught the essential survival skill of rolling back to float as well as independent swimming. Students will swim with their head down for approximately 3-5 seconds, when they are tired and need to breathe, they will independently rotate onto their backs, float, rest and when ready, the will flip over to resume swimming. They will repeat the Swim* Float* Swim sequence as many times as needed until they can swim to safety. Upon completion of this 4-5 week course, your child will learn how to safely enjoy the water. A periodic maintenance schedule is recommended to preserve and strengthen skills as your child grows. Toys & games are incorporated in these lessons. Students generally master these skills within 16 – 24 consecutive lessons. swim lessons rockledge swim lessons viera infant swim lessons
Water safety & pool play – As a parent of 4, I know that children want to have fun and enjoy the water using flotation devices such as swim rings and pool noodles as well as keep up with their older siblings and use dive sticks. Part of the Central Florida Aquatics mission is to teach children how to safely have fun with those types of items. Children who are age appropriate will have several lessons on the use of a swim ring and what to do if they slip out of it so it doesn’t trap them under water.
As you know, many hotels and resorts have a “lazy river” or pool and use these for the river ride, swim rings are very dangerous to young swimmers and can trap them underwater because the child doesn’t know to push it away or is not strong enough to pull themselves back up through the center. Swim rings also have a tendency to hover over a small swimmer, which makes it difficult for them to escape and also for someone above the pool to see them. Please be diligent in watching your child in the pool if they are playing with flotation toys – don’t assume they are safe because they have something to hold on to. swim lessons rockledge swim lessons viera infant swim lessons float
Lesson Structure:
Lessons are conducted 4 days per week, Monday – Thursday. Each lesson is approximately 10-15 minutes in length. Accomplished students and adults have the option of taking lessons twice per week and each lesson will be approximately 30 minutes in length.
Please Note: All lessons have a performance-based exit and not a time-based exit. All lessons are custom tailored to meet the physical, emotional and developmental needs of the student. No two children are exactly alike therefore; no two lessons are conducted exactly alike. infant swim lessons rockledge swim lessons viera private swim lessons rockledge float swim float
Once the child has started swimming I invite the parents, grandparents or who ever swims with the child to get in the pool and swim with us. This gives you the opportunity to learn a few tricks to use in your pool to reinforce what your child is learning in lessons.
A note for Parents…
Please remember, no child is drown-proof. Swim lessons are designed to teach your child a life-long skill and love for the water with an added element of safety if they also learn how to float. Regardless of their skills and abilities, no child should ever swim alone. Accidents happen in an instant, please watch your children around the water.
